Still working on my environment skills. Reference really does make all the difference, but it’s pretty obvious to me that I still need to work on my tonal skills.
It’s not pretty, but it’s a good way to “sketch”, or blockout, the layout I want. My initial 2D sketches helped me become more familiar with natural rock structures, and I find rough blockouts help figure out flow and composition. At the moment things are seeming a smidge too large, so I might shrink them down a bit. There needs to be a nice balance between the impressive scale of nature and the reality of how long it takes a player to get somewhere.
Alright, another quick update with things scaled down to a size that is more reasonable. Also, a more interesting angle.
